Miss Kits Crafts
Miss Kits Crafts is an amazing prop-making talent, specializing in active props using puppetry techniques. She has created a full-size skeksis costume from The Dark Crystal, and an enormous, working, Olmec wall from the show Legend of the Hidden Temple. among many others costumes and props. As a horror fan, her annual haunted house display is one of the best in New England.
Coming up May 13-17, Nerd Caliber will again be on Cape Cod organizing a long weekend of photo shoots in one of the most scenic locations in New England. But this year, our fourth, will be a little different and a big anniversary.
Unlike previous years, we won’t be at the Southfleet Motor Inn at South Wellfleet for an entire week covering two weekends. This year we felt it made more sense to be there for one extra-long weekend, packed with fun activities. One of those activities will be a big grilling and BBQ party Friday the 15th, to celebrate Nerd Caliber’s 10th anniversary!
Of course, the main goal of this event has always been to bring together photographers and cosplayers, to create awesome images in a wide variety of scenic environments. As you will see in the photos in the SmugMug gallery by clicking on the image below, the locations are beautiful, and sometimes creepy. The biggest draws are the beaches, which are all but empty of other people at that time of year. But there is also the abandoned military housing complex, the old stone tower, the cedar swamp and of course Provincetown itself.
Other locations a bit further away include another high tower, and even a perfect location for hobbits!
What we do for attendees is provide as much help as we can to get shoots to happen. We will help you find locations, provide expertise for photography and possibly even transportation help for remote locations. What we aren’t doing is setting up actual shoots — that will be up to the photographers and cosplayers to coordinate together. Check out the Facebook event page for a way to connect and coordinate.
The Southfleet Motor Inn has given us a discount room rate for anyone planning for an overnight stay, or longer. Go to the Inn’s website and use the promo code PHOTOS for the discount rate.
Of course, while we are there we will be promoting our own two-day event, the Cosplay And Photography Expo!, coming up July 18-19 in Mansfield, Mass.!
Colonial Armory specializes in foam-based and 3-D printed armor and props. But his specialty is in making large numbers of them for entire groups of cosplayers or LARPers. He will produce as much as a dozen sets of armor with slight variations for different characters — and their weapons. He can often be seen wearing his own creations for fun and promotion, but cosplays other characters as well, notably an excellent Krieger from Archer.
It occurs to us that it would be a good idea to put the basic information about this upcoming summer’s Cosplay And Photography Expo in one post, so people don’t have to hunt through a few different pages on this site. So, here we go.

Here’s a friendly reminder that ticket prices for the Cosplay And Photography Expo next summer — while currently at 2017 and 2018 prices — will go up by $5 whole dollars for a weekend ticket after Nov. 30! (OK, so not nearly as much as the image of giant Ant-Man implies.)
If you buy your tickets before then, a weekend set will set you back just $35, the same price as the last two C.A.P.E. events. But after Nov. 30 weekend tickets go up to $40. Every ticket level jumps by $5 on Dec. 1, including the tickets for professional photographers that wish to charge for shoots at the event. Those climb from $50 for the weekend to $55 after Nov. 30.
Go to the Registration page to get your tickets to C.A.P.E. 2020 today!
Gregg started his photography career as a joke — imitating me, FirstPerson Shooter, at the very first C.A.P.E Gregg discovered he really like taking cosplay photos. In the short four years since then he has honed his skills very well, often taking weeks to travel to a photography educational retreat somewhere out in the wilds of the West. Oh, and he is also the Associate Editor of NerdCaliber.com.
Lodaim specializes in traditional materials such as chain mail and leather. He is perhaps best known for his mashup of Legend of Zelda and Assassin’s Creed – the Assassin Link. He is as comfortable in blue face paint as Iceman or a shabby overcoat as John Constantine as he is in costumes with custom leather tooling and handmade chain mail.
Here it is, the details about the next Cosplay And Photography Expo — July 18, & 19, 2020!
The Holiday Inn Mansfield Foxoboro in Mansfield, Mass. It is just a couple miles from the Mansfield commuter rail stop, making getting to the convention much easier than in past years. For those driving, it is right off the intersection of Rt. 495 and I-95.
The meeting room and the meeting facility area is fantastically well laid out, and the hotel even has an amphitheater for large panels, just like our first hotel!
